Well, I just read one of the most appalling things I have ever read in my life. An assertion that a few verses were left out of the book of Mark that describes a homosexual encounter between Jesus and another man.
That is just crazy. It doesn’t fit anything we have ever read about or learned about Jesus Christ. Christ taught strictly against adultery. And he often referenced the book of Deuteronomy in particular, as well as the rest of the Old Testament. Jesus knew the views of God concerning Homosexuality and Adultery and fornication. We never see anything of Jesus being married or behaving in a way that went against these teachings. So any assertion that Jesus was anything other than celibate is outrageous.
My conclusion is this. I am amazed how important sex is to us. Or more to the point, I am amazed that its somehow important to us to justify our actions by placing them on Jesus. Isn’t it enough that he took our sins on himself, after living a perfect, sinless life? Isn’t it enough that he loved us to the point of forgiving us regardless of our past? Do we really have to try to find snip-its to add to the Bible to make it look like although everyone else my be guilty of sin, I am not…. It’s just not biblical. All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God, and we all need his forgiveness. Maybe we should just be thankful he died on the cross and rose again offering us that forgiveness. This is after all Easter week…. We should keep what he did in focus, not try to add to it, and not try to take away from it.
